Photography

All Arctic Wild trips have excellent opportunities for wildlife and landscape photography, but a few of them stand out above the rest. Alaska wildlife photography requires time, patience and an intimate knowledge of animal behavior. Our photography trips are designed to provide you with the knowledge and support you need to get the shots you crave. Whether your interest is in photographing caribou on the coastal plain, photographing grizzly (brown) bears in Katmai National Park or muskox along the Arctic Coast, we have the Alaska photo tour for you.

Our guides provide a wealth of information about Alaska’s wilderness and wildlife and can help you get the most out of your trip. Many of our guides are professional photographers themselves (Hugh Rose, Moe Witschard and David Shaw), and can teach you techniques for improving your photos.

What to Expect on a Wildlife Photography Trip

Arctic Wild trips are true wilderness journeys where the weather and wildlife dictate the pace and activities of our days. Typically we fly deep into the wilderness and set up a comfortable camp where we expect wildlife to be visible and abundant. Once the tents are up you can leave the camp chores to us and focus on the beauty around you.

Your guide will be on hand to lead hikes, help you set up a blind, teach you about the natural history of the area or coach you on photographic technique. With Alaska’s long summer days and endless wilderness the possibilities are boundless.

Preparing for a Photography Trip

Bring along a sense of adventure and plenty of batteries. Wildlife is unpredictable and we may have to walk some distance to get the best shots, but we have also had tens of thousands of caribou pour right through camp. A desire to see Alaska’s wildest places and enthusiasm for the trip will ensure your Alaska wildlife photography trip is a success.

Photographer Mario Davalos traveled with us on an ambitious custom photography trip and produced this video from his travels with us:

Having been home a couple of days I found a minute to send you a note to say a big thank you to you and all at Arctic Wild who contributed to making a really amazing trip for us.  I know you are well aware we made a fair number of “variations” around the original plan, but both the variations and the ease and tolerance with which they were made contributed to an amazing trip.  We have been fortunate to travel fairly widely and with a fair number of “Adventure / Eco travel” concerns.  Without doubt this was one of the best trips we have done.  The environment certainly was key but the organization and people involved, particularly Dori, really made it.

I would like to comment on the quality of your staff.  Amazing.  Wyatt from last years trip, still stands out as one of the memorably excellent guides we have been lucky to have, and Dori  …  Well I cannot really find words to express my admiration and appreciation.  Those that travel with her are truly fortunate.

Regards, and thanks again.
